I didn't mind the slow start, since it gave me time to contemplate the exemplary stupidity of these students, who surely represent the bottom of the academic barrel at the University of Florida. The credit of writing the horror content for it goes to twin brothers – Chad and Carey Hayes. House of Wax is admirable as one of the few movies - and even fewer horror movies - to feature an interracial couple without mention of race. Although it's filled with stupid characters who make basic horror movie mistakes (they take the detour, accept a ride from a stranger, investigate the creepy town, etc.), it also has a way of getting under the skin.
